This study was conducted by E-CUBE Strategy Consultants in Lausanne. It reviews several key findings following the publication of the Swiss Federal Office of Energy’s (SFOE) Energy Perspectives 2050+ report in November 2020. The aim is to highlight the results presented in the report and provide initial insights into the challenges that energy sector stakeholders are likely to face in the years ahead.
The findings presented in this study are based on the ZERO scenario developed by the SFOE. In November 2020, the SFOE published an updated set of scenarios outlining the evolution of Switzerland’s energy mix towards carbon neutrality by 2050, in line with the country’s commitments under the Paris Agreement and the objectives announced by the Swiss Confederation in August 2019.
Through this publication, the SFOE provides a long-term vision for Switzerland’s energy future, involving several major transformations of the energy system while maintaining continuity in the country’s economic and societal development.
