2024 Outlook
After Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022, the key event for the energy sector in 2023 was probably the agreement reached at COP28 in Dubai on a "transition away from fossil fuels". While the actual scope of this agreement remains debatable, it does testify to the growing (if not sufficient) mobilisation of political, economic and civil society players around the challenges of the energy-climate transition.
And like the lasting impact of the Ukrainian crisis on European energy policies, even if energy prices have fallen significantly by 2023, there will be many direct and indirect consequences from 2024 onwards, both in European and national public policies and in corporate strategies.
