E-CUBE recently hosted its first webinar dedicated to flexibility, focusing on the implications of summer 2026 for battery energy storage systems (BESS). We thank all attendees for their participation and for the quality of the exchanges.
The webinar analyzed current market conditions and the factors that drove BESS revenues between summer 2025 and summer 2026. Two families of drivers were examined:
- Conjunctural, yet cyclical, factors: natural gas price crises and the summer unavailability of part of the nuclear fleet, which reshaped power price levels and spreads across European markets.
- Structural factors: the rapid penetration of BESS, which compresses the value of ancillary services and arbitrage as installed capacity grows, alongside the continued expansion of renewable generation.
Understanding which of these effects will fade and which will persist is critical for asset sizing and financing decisions.
