This study, conducted by E‑CUBE Strategy Consultants for the Swiss Federal Office of Energy (BFE), examines the regulatory options needed to oversee the future development of hydrogen networks in Switzerland.
In a context where H₂ could play a key role in decarbonisation by 2050, the study explores four possible network scenarios (from the minimal scenario to the distributed scenario) and assesses for each one the rules for separating activities, network access, tariff regulation, infrastructure planning and compatibility with the future European framework.
Key points of the study:
- Assessment of the interest in regulating future hydrogen networks
- Four analysis scenarios, based on the degree of hydrogen use in Switzerland
- Analysis of scenarios based on different levers (vertical and horizontal separation of activities, network access, pricing and BAR, public infrastructure planning, compatibility with future European rules)
